The Opportunity  

The Chief Transport Planner role is a unique and exciting role where you will have the opportunity to shape what the future of transport in NSW looks like over the 10, 20, and 40-year time horizons. The Chief Transport Planner sets the long term vision and directions for Transport for NSW to connect customers and communities with a safe, reliable, sustainable and integrated transport system. The role leads the design of multi-modal, state-wide transport networks for both the movement of people and goods and develops business cases for State and city building projects.   The role is required to work across Transport, government and other key stakeholders to ensure transport solutions contribute to building successful places for communities and enable economic development.  In doing so, the Chief Transport Planner places the customer at the centre of everything we do and ensures innovation and advances in technology are adopted to create a world-class transport system and mobility solutions for the people of NSW.  

About the team 

The role sits within the Customer, Strategy and Technology (CST) Division and reports to the Deputy Secretary of the CST Division. CST division has a broad and forward looking accountabilities spanning customer strategy, strategic policy, technology and innovation, data analytics, Opal ticketing and tolling,  freight and media, brand and marketing. All branches in CST, including Strategic Transport Planning, work collaboratively to deliver customer and community outcomes.  

About you  

You are a tertiary qualified strategic transport planning professional looking for an opportunity to apply your experience and passion to shape and lead a world class transport planning team:

  • You are a strategic thinker and outcomes focused 
  • You have strong leadership skills to inspire your team, empower them to do their best work and foster their professional development  
  • Have deep knowledge of strategic planning frameworks and how to effectively apply them in large complex organisations
  • Ideally, you have experience running a large transport planning function that has delivered on significant change and introduced visionary concepts and strategies
  • You are a clear, engaging communicator and natural collaborator who excels at building strong credibility and strong relationships across diverse stakeholder groups
  • You bring strong experience in navigating complex stakeholder landscapes.
