Rail Market and Project Director, NSW

The New South Wales rail network is going through its biggest transformation in many generations. We have the very visible work on the Sydney Metro second and third stages already underway, a number of business cases for Faster intercity rail services, and then there are other, significant, projects underway on the existing rail network of Sydney and beyond.

What got us here…

In the past two decades, the industry has been investing in developing subject matter experts in the rail sector. The Australian workforce has a pool of professionals with excellent domain knowledge in the disciplines of overhead wiring, signalling, power and track. But with increasingly complex and transformational projects now underway it has become clear that there is a skills gap in the industry. The critical value of those who can step back from a single discipline and look at how the current and future rail systems will (and arguably more important, won’t) work holistically.

Our client has been transformed in large part thanks to their ability to develop these bigger-picture problem solvers/project leaders. Their current leaders for the Rail sector have the unique ability to put the pieces together and work with clients on these higher-level complexities, adding value through the project definition, development and delivery phases. The value has been recognised and as such this, globally recognised engineering consultancy is now the go-to in the Australian market for solving tomorrow’s congestion issues with better rail solutions.

They are now looking for their next leader for the rail group. The role will resonate as it will see you;

  • Join a firm with an impressive forward workload of key projects
  • Transition into the role with the support from the current leader of the rail group and other disciplines
  • Take on a project director/stewardship role on one or more of the current projects and programs of work
  • Be involved in the transformation of Sydney and New South Wales rail network
  • Have overarching leadership responsibility for a local team and significant interstate and international professionals who can strengthen your service offering for the client
  • Be part of a globally recognised brand that is seen as the leader in the engineering and advisory field for transport, infrastructure and beyond

What you will bring to the role

  • A demonstrable track record in the delivery of rail systems – from business case to detailed design/delivery
  • Major project experience – either local, interstate or international is applicable
  • A client focus – the ability to engage and work with clients to deliver them fit-for-purpose solutions as opposed to technically impressive, but impractical engineering work
  • Leadership capabilities and communication skills that will help you get the best out of your team
